DBS card game in Europe: Will all the tournaments planned for the 2nd half of 2019 make a difference?

In this article:

  • List of all major DBS events coming up in Aug-Dec 2019, with some highlights
  • A personal reflection on the state of play in Europe
  • Announcements from The Lookout

Dear DBS CG fans,

I started playing this great game in late 2018 when Europe was still very neglected in terms of tournament support and DBS products in general. I talked to a lot of people in Croatia, Belgium, The Netherlands and the UK primarily to understand the reasons behind it. I learned a lot but I did not let the general dissatisfaction about lack of support turn me away from the game.

I decided to push against the current and do the best I can to become a better player, to play in the most competitive tournaments and to spread the word about this amazing game as far and wide as I can. This is where the motivation of my friends and I came from to found The Lookout.

It’s going to be almost a year this October since I started playing and I must say that I already feel super happy about how things have turned around in the last 10 months. Product delivery time slightly improved, more LGSs in cities and towns in Europe now have the tournament support needed and more players are enjoying the game. Even though the game is growing in certain parts of western Europe, other parts of Europe are still waiting for better days.

Nevertheless, the biggest improvement in 2019 are the major Bandai supported tournaments (Big preliminaries) we are getting across the continent and on top of that, certain motivated players and vendors are organising additional big tournaments in areas players should have an easy time getting to. Let’s list all these events below and make sure everybody is aware of the details.

We would be happy if you as our dear fans, can answer the question in the title: Will all the tournaments planned for the 2nd half of 2019 make a difference? We believe they bring huge potential and that we’re in to see the game booming in Europe this year!

Saturday 14th: European Finals for 16 top players from the three major finals from the UK, France and Italy (specific format restrictions) will take place in the heart of Europe: Brussels! It will be a final showdown event for these 48 players and it will take place in the iconic Atomium construct, in the north-eastern part of the city. Check it out below! As Bandai put it: “High in the sky, Europe’s best players will battle it out to ascend to all-new levels!“. Nor now, you can find a bit more info here.

Best ways to get there: Trains are an obvious choice if you’re from a neighbouring county. For planes: Ryanair/Wizzair are flying into Charleroi Airport (then shuttle to Brussels) and Ryanair/Brussels Airlines flights to Brussels main airport (shuttles and trains available for fast transport to the city).

This iconic December event will end the 2019 DBS CG season in Europe which is mostly focused on western Europe and we’ll have our new European champions! By that time we will already know Bandai’s 2020 plans for the game. Hopefully, the south and east European front will be given more attention in the future.
